TAIWAN UTILITY CUSTOM
The Tainan Transformer
From the workshop of Ah-Bin Motorcycle, this highly-modified scooter is a masterclass in functional form, built to conquer the city and beyond.
Taiwan’s sprawling cities are a world-renowned hotbed for scooter customization, a scene defined by vibrant creativity and engineering resourcefulness. Amidst the sea of race-inspired builds, a different philosophy is emerging. This machine from Ah-Bin Motorcycle in Tainan is a prime example. Starting with what appears to be a rugged Dollar 150 platform, the shop has created a personal ride that doubles down on the model’s utilitarian roots while weaving in an impressive list of high-performance components. It’s less a showpiece and more a versatile, two-wheeled tool.
Chapter 01
Sharpening the Drivetrain
While the core of the engine remains stock, the performance envelope has been pushed with carefully selected bolt-ons. The most prominent is a custom back-pressure exhaust system that appears to take inspiration from high-end Akrapovič designs. Paired with a Fan CNC transmission air intake cover, the modifications suggest a focus on optimizing airflow and throttle response for nimble city riding. This isn't about chasing huge horsepower numbers; it's about refining the existing package for greater efficiency and a more engaging ride, all punctuated by a significantly more aggressive exhaust note.
"This isn't just a collection of nice parts; it’s a cohesive system built for real-world adventure, big or small."
Chapter 02
A Chassis to Match the Mission
To handle the demands of a daily workhorse, the chassis and handling have been completely overhauled. Up front, a custom CNC front shock assembly is paired with Krace CNC clip-on “battle” bars, Ridea levers, and a Triones floating brake disc clamped by a Brembo caliper. This is a serious commitment to improving front-end feel and braking power. The stock wheels have been swapped for a set of Ghost wire-spoke rims, which not only add a touch of classic style but are often favored for their strength and resilience. It’s a setup that provides the rider with a direct, confident connection to the road, whether navigating traffic or carrying a full load.
Chapter 03
Utilitarianism by Design
The build’s true identity is revealed in its incredible modularity and utility. An extensive ecosystem of racks—including a Dogzilla front rack, a heavy-duty sliding RSL cargo rack, and Sixis side mounts—provides a platform for a near-endless combination of cargo solutions. The build is seen here with a large Asturtan aluminum top case and an auxiliary tool box. This functionality is wrapped in a bold aesthetic, featuring custom 3D-printed light surrounds, a vented front body panel, and a striking “hard man” full-body graphics kit. Custom Bluetooth-controlled lighting and PIAA fog lamps round out a package that is as high-tech as it is tough.
Spec Sheet
From its aggressive stance to its immense practicality, this scooter is a rolling showcase of purpose-driven modification. It’s a testament to Ah-Bin Motorcycle’s vision, proving that a daily rider can be both a dependable tool and a source of immense pride. It’s a vision of urban mobility that is tough, adaptable, and unapologetically custom.
